Work experience and history
Brian Completed the Police Reserve Academy in 1992 and was hired as a Reserve Police officer for the City of San Jose that same year. He obtained his associates degree in administration of justice in 1993. In 1994, Brian was hired as a full time Police Officer for the City of San Jose.
Brian acquired knowledge in many fields by working in a variety of capacities for the city of San Jose. He worked as a patrol officer, a Field Training Officer, assisted in cold case homicide investigations, a Field Terrorism Liaison Officer, Peer Support and in the San Jose Police Department Training Unit.
In 2010 Brian earned a promotion to Sergeant with the San Jose Police Department. As a sergeant, he worked in patrol, and continued to teach counterterrorism and active shooter courses. He also supervised the department’s recruiting unit.
Brian left the San Jose Police Department in 2015 for an opportunity as a Deputy Sheriff with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. As a Deputy Sheriff, he worked in corrections, patrol and as a Law Liaison Officer for the Office of Emergency Services for the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. In this position, he assisted in coordinating the Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Response for the Tubbs and Atlas Fires in Napa, Sonoma and Lake Counties and the Camp fire in Butte County.
In 2018, Brian earned a promotion to sergeant with the Sheriff’s office. In that capacity, he worked corrections and as a Law Liaison Officer until his retirement from Law enforcement in December 2019.
In 2020 and 2021, Brian worked as the manager of facilities security for the County of Santa Clara. While at the County, he conducted all hazard assessments for county facilities, assisted in the design and purchase of equipment to protect county employees, developed active shooter training programs and supervised security and public safety at the counties main Covid vaccination center.
Teaching experience
Brian began developing and teaching classes in counterterrorism in 2004. He taught counterterrorism to police dispatchers and recruits in the police academy and conducted team trainings for patrol. His counterterrorism training then extended to provide training assistance to other police departments, fire departments and other public safety employees throughout California.
Brian then expanded to develop and teach classes in active shooter in 2006. He developed an Active Shooter/Mall Lockdown training program used by law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and Australia, as well as for all malls in the City of San Jose. Workplace Violence Training at San Jose City Hall for City of San Jose department heads was then provided based on his program. Brian then became an Emergency Management instructor at the San Jose Police Academy. School districts and churches realized the necessity of active shooter training and Brian began sharing his knowledge and training with public school teachers and religious institution staff. Brian has completed over 200 hours in instructor certification courses related to his training.
