Experiences in Emergencies: My law enforcement career began with the first call of a bank alarm! The entire time working as a law enforcement officer provided me multiple opportunities to respond to emergencies including; plane crashes, bank robberies, shootings, earthquakes, gas pipelines, and now a pandemic! These experiences helped me develop a passion to be a life long student and share my experiences.

I was prepared during an emergency by training for the exact event that occurred. It began with visualizing what would occur in real life from the beginning to the end. This continued by actually tactile and kinestic practice designed to simulate real life. The event was resolved successful however, it left me with the question of “now what?”

I am working at State of Ready because of the question “now what?” I recognized that too often we prepare for an incident but, not through an incident. This results in a lack of preparation for sustained events, lack of supplies, or chaos ensuing. My desire is to ensure this does not happen for the community.

My goal for State of Ready with each business is to prepare them for the future with open eyes of potential problems but provide them with solutions utilizing technology through early adoption and automation. This should not result in sacrificing an understanding of “why?” something happens nor, forgetting how to do something but rather enhance sustainability and resilience.
