Hi Ed, I just recently came across your site and while I think it is a good idea I do feel that it misses the mark. Just a few unsolicited comments.
On your About page you mentioned you noticed a gap but don’t actually tell us what that is, that would allow the reader to better understand what you are trying to accomplish.
On your Blog page you discuss several points but what concerns me most is that you did not mention prevention (I apologise if I missed it), that is the key to EM, the rest is icing on the cake so to speak. This should be our number one priority. Everything else means that we are going to host the community money or worse… Lives. The final point I would like to make is that in your how to get into EM, and again I apologise if I missed, but education is vital if anyone wants to get into moving forward. They will be competing with those who have extensive experience and advanced degrees and no one should want to work for an agency or department that puts someone into a leadership position that doesn’t have both, it would suggest that they do not see EM as a priority but as a box they need to tick. The excuse that they cannot afford to hire someone like that is moot post disaster as you get what you pay for. That brings me to my last point, just because someone is holding an EM position does not make them a professional. There are many who are seat warmers, many who do not understand true EM and have little interest in the pursuit of knowledge or any other factor that defines a profession.
Thanks for checking us out! First off, I appreciate your comments. This is exactly what I am looking to do in building this site. It’s still a work in progress and I’m still defining it’s vision and trying to nail down the correct descriptions. I’ll work on the updates for the About Us page but the other observations you saw are actually ideas for future blog posts and articles that we are planning.
Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for new content!
